I have a LOOOOONG list of to-sew items: from baggies for Benji lug his toys around to stock for the shoppe. With that list in hand, I went on an online fabric spree! 😀
Yards and yards of BEAUTIFUL fabrics were delivered to our door step throughout September. Some fabrics are still in their packing boxes because I ran out of space to store them! Feeling ‘inspired’, I sewed up more crayon wallets for the shoppe. Now, I have done my share of wallet-sewing, and its on to the quilt-y projects! yaay!
Ok… you might not think much of it, or love the print (a Spotlight sale fabric that I didn’t love very much after I paid for it – yes, I’m a fickle one). BUT wait till you see the ‘BEFORE’ photo:
Burnt, horrid and thinny old cover
I was tempted to get one of the covers from Etsy, but I’m feeling a bit poor after my fabric spree recently. So, I bit the bullet and tried out this tutorial and it worked like a charm! I was debating whether to use one of my precious Amy Butler prints, but decided against it just in case I screw it all up. And as usual, when the proto-type turns out better than you expected, you regret not using a better print. However, next time I will just cut out a bigger piece of fabric and make a quick casing, instead of going through the process of pinning the old casing to the new fabrics…
So, with a new cover (and additional batting!), my ironing board takes on a new lease of life.
The quilt & cot bumper are done, delivered and received by Mama G.
I managed to take some pictures of the QUILT, but not the bumper because I was in a rush to take up a promotion with SpeedPost that saved us SGD$50 for the express door-to-door service.

Waiting for pictures of the how the nursery is dressed with the quilted goodies. Can’t wait for the little one’s arrival too! 😀
One of the items that we have given up buying (or taking from the stores) is gift-wrap paper. I’m not great at gift wrapping anyway, and so this is a perfect solution for me:
Drawstring Gift Bag - Front
Drawstring Gift Bag - Back
As for the gift tag, I interfaced a piece of fabric and attached it to the bag with safety pins, so that this bag can be re-used over and over again by the recipient.

In the past, I have also used fabrics to wrap up some X’mas/Birthday love.
Yes, I do love my Olfa rulers, cutters, blades and mats. Quilting can be an expensive hobby, and Rotary cutting is ONE BIG CULPRIT – the cutting tools burnt a huge hole right through my pocket when I first started sewing and when I purchased them from the local quilt shops.
Nowadays, I help my friends get their cutters, rulers, mats and blades direct from a local distributor, rather than the quilt shops that put a high mark-up on the prices, or suffer the price fluctuations (depending on luck!) on eBay.
Pinking Cutter - SGD$21.50
Wave Cutter - SGD$21.50
45mm Deluxe Rotary Cutter - SGD$26.80
I have since put up the supplies at my Etsy store, selling at more down-to-earth prices (if not lower) so that we can help each other stretch our dollars a little bit more. The items in my store are the ‘extras’ that I have to put through to make minimum order amount to the distributor.
For rulers and mats, I can only take on local orders (and I ship free locally!) because of the high cost and fragile nature of the mats/rulers shipping overseas.
Any questions on rotary cutting and the tools, please send them my way! 😀
