It has been too long since my last post on this site. Last post was in March 2012. Ack.
That was when we decided to move house and settle in our new apartment. We spent months packing and sorting out possessions for sale, friends, goodwill or to the rag and bone man. My husband had to let go his magazine collection which dated back to 1987. That was about 25 years’ worth of motoring & Hi-Fi monthly mags (wrapped up lovingly in industrial cling film). The rag and bone man gave him over $20 bucks as scrap paper.
We finally moved into our new place over Christmas and we love our little cosy apartment. Space is a huge issue, but we built storage into the 1,100 sq ft unit like mad. So we still fit.
Reno Hell
2013 was exciting for us. Son started k2 in a new kindy, I took part in the inaugural handmade fair by Handmade Movement Singapore (and met some really awesome handmade craft aficionados) and I fell pregnant.
Fair Stand
Absolutely flattered that someone thought it was picture worthy
The fair was a blast. It poured like crazy when we got there to set up shop and it felt like the event was going to be a wash-out. But the handmade lovers came through and we all had fun talking about our passions.
Oh yes. The pregnancy. I was in bed for a good part of it – the morning sickness was absolutely wicked and I had no energy for anything else. I felt better closer to my 3rd trimester, but still not much sewing.
By the time we entered 2014, our big boy started Primary school and our little one is still keep us up with her frequent night feedings. I got my sewing mojo back; sewing for the family, starting new projects and also had great support from friends and customers looking for personalised gifts.
I’m already looking forward to 2015 – a year dedicated to finishing my projects (yep. I have a LOT of WIPs in those built-in cupboards).
Even though I have been absent on this site, I have been ‘micro-blogging’ over at my Facebook page. Do join me there as I share off-the-cuff snippets of my sewing journey.

Straight stitch ONLY foot (no zig/zag stitches, just like your regular 1/4″ foot). This foot is like a 1/4″ foot, but comes with an integrated fabric guide.
Buy it because…
The fabric/seam guide helps to ensure that your 1/4″ seam allowance is accurate, especially for sewing long strips like sewing jelly rolls and projects like colourwash or bargello quilts. I love this footer for power sewing those long strips together as I can chomp through them confidently. Just like the regular 1/4″ foot, it has markings 1/4″ in front and behind the centre position so that you can pivot, start and end your sewing accurately.
I am selling because…
This is a very lightly used footer and not compatible with my current Bernina.
The condition…
It is almost brand new. It comes with the original packaging, with the instructions sheet as well. I have used it less than 10 times! I just noticed a little mark on 1 side of the foot. I could have struck it when my needle was in the wrong position. But otherwise, this footer is in great condition.
Applicable models:
All Bernina models with 5.5mm stitch width. Not to be used with models which have a stitch width of 9mm.
I am asking for:
SGD$30 + SGD$2.50 (local registered post). Local buyers can pay via local bank transfer or cash upon collection.
USD$26 + International shipping (please contact me for shipping fees). International buyers can pay safely via PayPal.
The Hope Valley quilt is finally on my bed! It’s a full size bed quilt and I was happy to ship it off to be quilted on a long arm and save my sanity and achy back. I got it back in Dec 2011 and it kept us cozy on the many rainy nights we had in December/January.
The quilt top is made up of Denyse Schmidt’s Hope Valley fabrics and Kona Linen Cotton blend.
I started this project around May 2010. The block is really quite easy and quick to put together, but I slipped in my calculation and had to stop, cut more, sew more and went back & forth to the design wall. I wanted each row/column of blocks to be unique in print, so it was terribly fussy. The project stayed in my WIP drawer for a long long time before I pulled it out again (when I needed more space!). And I pinned the blocks when joining them so that all (well, most of them did!) points meet just right.
Nice and crinkly after the wash! I have to say that the Essex linen was a little tricky to work with, but after the quilt came out from the wash, the texture is amazing. But if you are looking for super smooth/soft texture, then go for 100% cotton or velveteen. The prints include many geometric designs so it has the ‘manly’ element in there too!
I’m on a quilt making roll right now. I have 1 toddler quilt and 1 faux chenille baby quilt waiting to be basted and another full bed sized quilt for myself cut and waiting to be pieced.
Even though I don’t have the chance to sew EVERYDAY, I just can’t stop thinking about the projects, the stash and what other projects I can start! I’m sure I’m not the only obsessive gal who goes through her day thinking: can’t wait to sew… can’t wait to sew! 😀
